The Houses of Parliament

Parliament examines what the Government is doing, makes new laws, holds the power to set taxes and debates the issues of the day. And the British Parliament consists of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.(http://www.parliament.uk/about/)

The Houses of Parliament, or the other name as known as The Palace of Westminster, stands on the site where Edward the Confessor had the original palace built in the first half. In 1547 the royal residence was moved to Whitehall Palace, but the Lords continued to meet at Westminster, while the commons met in St. Stephen's Chapel. Ever since these early times, the Palace of Westminster has been home to the English Parliament. In 1834 a fire broke out which destroyed much of the old palace, all that remained was the chapel crypt, The Jewel Tower and Westminster Hall. Then, Big Ben is being to the London's Houses of Parliament.

There are many famous landmark is associated with The Houses of Parliament. Such as Buckingham Palace was built by the 1st Duke of Buckingham in 1702. It was originally intended as a country mansion at the edge of St. James’s Park, but the rapidly-expanding city meant it settled into a central position. travel guide to London http://www.londondrum.com/cityguide/

It is reckoned to have saved us more than seventy times since its opening. The British Parliament consists of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The House of Commons has more power than the House of Lords and decides national policy. The men and women who form the House of Commons are called Members of Parliament(MPs).

And the responsibility of MPs is that MPs are involved in considering and proposing new laws, and can use their position to ask government ministers questions about current issues. When Parliament is sitting (meeting), MPs generally spend their time working in the House of Commons. In their constituency, MPs often hold a 'surgery' in their office, where local people can come along to discuss any matters that concern them. MPs also attend functions, visit schools and businesses and generally try to meet as many people as possible(http://www.parliament.uk/about/mps-and-lords/members/mps/).

In conclusion, the British Parliament consists of two Houses, and people vote to be the MP, then it talk about the responsibility of MPs. Whatever, The Prime Minister selects some MPs to become ministers, but even if an MP becomes a minister, he or she has reponsibility for his or her constituency.
